The Domaine des Bosquets was like a"sleeping beauty", but waking up... Proud of a magnificient 26 Ha sized vineyard, located on the best terroirs of the appellation Gigondas, the estate clearly displays its ambitions.

On this historical estate of the appellation, each detail is carefully studied. Our approach is piecemeal, from the vineyard to the ageing. We militate for finesse, balance, and great aging potential.

History:

Notarial records indicate the existence of "vinea culta" at the spot known as "Les Bosquets" in 1376. It is at this exact location that the nobleman  Jean de Rivière, Lord of Laval, built the Domaine des Bosquets' first edifice in 1644. The tower with battlements, lined with a "chemin de ronde" (raised protected walkway), rubbing shoulders with the huge provençal farm, is like a crow'nest overlooking the Rhône Valley.

Several distinguished personalities have laid thier seal here. Eugène Raspail first, who was responsible for the estate's development form 1861. A century later, another visionary, Gabriel Meffre, took up the reins of the estate, restoring its nobility. Les Bosquets remains in the family today, having been in its possession centuries ago.

In 1987, after the death of gabriel Meffre, his daughter Sylvette Bréchet took the destiny of this property in hand. With her impetus, her son, Laurent Bréchet, joined her: the Bosquets estate was given a new lease of life with the creation of a circular cellar in the shape of a provençal Chapel, then an underground cellar for aging the wine. In 2006, it was the turn of her other son, Julien, to return to the estate, bringing fresh ideas with him.

The estate won three consecutive times in the competition of wines of Gigondas, 2 times to the general agricultural competiton in Paris, and the international press highlights its rise.

Terroir :

It's no wonder that vines have held sway in this spot for over 6 centuries. Sheltered from the Mistral wind, the estate's 100,000 vines mature slowly in a jewel of greenery. The altitude conspires to create a vibrant balance of freshness and ripeness.

The vineyard reposes mainly on very ancient soil (around 125 million years old), a mix of blue marls and limestones. This geological particularity gives the wines a hallmark style that is well bred, mineral and elegant.

The entire vinyard is managed sustainably. Plots are re-demarcated. The soils are worked or grass covered. With measured intervention, the vineyard cures its own ailments, ages better and as a result, fully expresses the quintessence of its "terroirs".

Grape varieties :

The estate relies on 4 grape varieries, but it is the Grenache that dominates the blend with its charisma. This vatiety, that is really able to draw out the best of the "terroir", brings its full dimension to the des Bosquets wines. On this particular terroir, its balnce is absolutely remarkable.

Three grape varieties complement it: Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cinsualt. They are an integral part of the estate's wines, providing aromatic highlights, stucture and aging potential.

The vineyard, populated by old vines, literally digs deep down in the subsoil, drawing in all its aromatic complexity as it goes. The yields are very low: 25HlHa on average. Only the finest clusters of grapes make it through the doors of the winery

Vinification et ageing:

The grapes that enter the winery do so gently, with the valuable help of gravity Ensuring the grape remains whole enables more progressive extraction The vatting period can last longer and the complexity obtained is much gretaer months, partially, but not systematically, in barrel, and as far as possible not in new wood This because a purer expression of "terroir" is being sought

The wines are bottled on the estate in a single operation to help ensure consistency Then maturing, that will often last for several years, starts in the underground aging cellar, until the wine is ready to be served at the best dining tables

Les vins :

Domaine des Bosquets Blanc - 80% Grenache – 20% Roussane - This white is made on the high elevation plot called “Cheval Long”. Handpicked, and vinified in oak barrels, only several cases are released. Our purpose: minerality, tension and finesse.

Domaine des Bosquets Rosé – 90% Grenache – 10% Cinsault - A "gastronomic", food-friendly rosé that benefits from cooler, hiher altitude terroir and offers powerful fruit from Mediterranean varietals.

Domaine des Bosquets Rouge – 70% Grenache – 20% Syrah – 5% Mourvèdre – 5% Cinsault - Dark, charismatic and bewitching with complexity, minerality, and notes of garrigue scrub and spices, the Domaine des Bosquets red wine generally shows great purity of fruit. The freshness born out of the altitude makes it approachable in its youth, and its tannic structure becomes more amenable as it ages, over 10 to 15 years.

Domaine des Bosquets Rouge cuvée « Le Lieu dit... » – The laying down wine from the estate's celebrated plot, vinified and matured pure. This is a Grenache in all its splendour, in turn opulent, soft, elegant and blessed with beautiful lenght on the palate.

Domaine des Bosquets Rouge cuvée « La Colline... » - This parcel was planted into the rocks by our ancestors. It overlooks the estate and stretches as far as the edge of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The high-altitude calcareous marls are mainly planted with old Grenache vines, and produces intense, racy wines which are aged for long in Demi-muids.
